CURC produced some great results at 2017. It was again held on the Tyne in Newcastle, but sadly this year the Novice races were cancelled due to the tail end of Storm Doris. 16 athletes from the senior squads made the long trek north for the events on the Sunday. The conditions were far from ideal, with the beginnings of Storm Ewan causing some large chop and swell over parts of the course. Luckily for CURC, it was nothing we haven't experienced in Cardiff Bay before.
The women entered an 8+ in WInt8 and a 4+ in WInt4+, with them coming 7th and 9th respectively. This is a brilliant result and is a great marker for WeHORR in a few weeks. The men entered an 8+ in Int8 and two 4+'s in Int4+ with the 8 coming in 8th and the two 4's in 11th and 16th. The result in the 8 is fantastic as last year we came in 22nd, they also increased the rivalry for the Welsh Boat race by beating Swansea by 10 seconds, after their defeat at Head of the Taff in January.
BUCS was very good to CURC this year, it was a shame the novices couldn't race but they have the London Heads of the river to look forward to now.
